About the Academy:
The Indian Academy of Wood Science (IAWS) is a non-profit professional organization, covering in its activities all aspects related to wood, wood-based composites, and their processing; cellulose and cellulose-based sciences; industries and allied fields relating to resource utilization of wood including biological science related to the deterioration of wood and wood-based products. The academy publishes an international journal “Journal of the Indian Academy of Wood Science” in collaboration with Springer Nature. The aims and objects of the Academy are:
- To unite, on an all-India basis, in one organization, all scientists, technologists, engineers, and other personnel engaged in Research, Education, Industry, Trade, and other professions connected with Wood Science and to bring technical, social, and economic cooperation among its members;
- To foster, encourage, develop, and maintain among its members high ethical standards in their profession, business, industry, trade, and general conduct and to codify and propagate such suitable codes of ethics to encourage the application of the ideal of service by every member to his profession, business, and community life;
- To strive for the development of Wood Science in all possible ways and to regulate the relationship between various sectors of this field of knowledge and the personnel engaged in the same;
- To further the application of various sciences in all industries based on “Wood Science’ and to promote investigation, research and the exchange of ideas among the members engaged in these fields;
- To arrange for the collection and dissemination of information relating to ” Wood Science” in all possible ways, particularly by arranging seminars, discussions, publications, and similar other methods;
- To collect, codify, and provide technical facts, data, standards, and process specifications, fundamental to Wood Science and allied industries.
- To help and promote rational and scientific utilization of raw materials, avoiding wastage in raw materials, development of standard products and standard techniques, the evolution of uniform standardized processing methods, quality control methods, inspection methods, and similar other scientific methods, applicable to the industries connected with wood and cellulose;
- To promote and protect in all parts of the world the interests of the Academy and its members;
- To Co-operate, affiliate, or federate with any other organization in India end abroad having partly or wholly similar or allied objects;
- To provide a forum for meetings of technologists, and scientists. engineers and other technical personnel engaged in timber and cellulose industries and research institutes and to discuss their common problems connected with their professions so as to improve the technical knowledge of the members;
